Roadjag 110: Essential Viewing
Live in 3-D, a few of our favorite films.
- Dick (IMDB). Two gals hired to walk Nixon's dog happen upon the Watergate scandal.
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (IMDB), Where the Buffalo Roam (IMDB). Two assorted takes on Hunter S. Thompson, both just right at times.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off (IMDB). How we wish we'd handled high school -- with aplomb, inventiveness, and truancy.
- Ghost World (IMDB, official site). Two gals grow up and away during their first summer out of high school.
- Go, Swingers. Director Doug Liman (IMDB) is pure money, baby.
- Gone with the Wind (IMDB, official site). See previous references.
- Heathers (IMDB). High school turned on its head. This film would never have been made post-Columbine. We're glad it saw the light of day.
- National Lampoon's Vacation (IMDB), European Vacation (IMDB). The first is a cross-country driving classic. The second is mainly memorable for the scene on the train where everyone is driving everyone else crazy.
- Office Space (IMDB). Your workplace, only to the tenth power. This film is universally beloved by disgruntled corporate workers.
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (IMDB, official site). Forget Sex Ed. As teenagers we learned all we need to know from Frank N Furter and our fellow audience members.
- Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (IMDB). Two gals decide pose at the inventors of Post-It notes in order to impress their former classmates, in an act of Jag-like proportions. The ultimate dream of all former adolescent outcasts (yes, that would be us).

Star Wars episode IV: A New Hope, aka Star Wars (IMDB, official site). Everything was much more fun before Ewoks and Jar Jar. Unencumbered by romance, Leia's a snappy-talking princess, Han a swaggering rogue, and we want to slap whiny and earnest Luke.
The War Room (IMDB). A "backstage" look at Bill Clinton's '92 campaign. James Carville is pure Jag. Packs more adrenaline than a shoplifter at the store exit.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (IMDB, official site owned by Nestlé). Different than the book, but just as great. Gene Wilder is right on target as the exuberant and more-than-slightly-sinister chocolatier, and the Oompa Loompas' songs are great. Veruca Salt rocks (the brat, not the band)!
